Ronald Duguid Obituary

The family of Ronald Duguid beloved husband of the Late Mrs. Geraldine Duguid sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Ron passed away as he wished, peacefully at his home on the farm he loved. He was 78 years of age.

Ronald George Duguid was born in Preeceville on June 2, 1946 to Herbert and Isabelle Duguid. Ronald attended Beaver Falls School which was approximately a three mile walk cross country. When the school was closed Ronald was bussed to Preeceville, but still had to walk to John Isaacs to catch the bus, because that’s as far as the roads were plowed. Ron attended school until grade 7 when he finally had enough and quit. Ronald worked on the family farm along side his parents. They ran about 300 head of cattle. They milked about 30 cows and hauled cream to Hinchcliffe where it was put on a train and shipped to Flin Flon, Manitoba. A few years later they hauled the cream to the local creamery in Preeceville.

In the 60’s Ronald ventured out to Prince George where he worked at Dunkley Lumber running the edger. Ronald worked at the mill for a few years then returned home and met the love of his life Geraldine Masko. Ronald and Geraldine moved a new house to the farm that was purchased from a co-op catalogue in Canora. Ronald worked several years at Lady Lake Community Pasture. He told stories of how he covered every square inch on horseback. Ronald also worked in the bush.

Ronald and Geraldine were married in 1968, they had 3 children. Duane born in 1968, Colleen born in 1979 and Jamie born in 1982.

Ronald and Geraldine ran a mixed farming operation which included cattle, horses, pigs, chickens, turkeys and geese until 2008 when they decided to step back and rented out the land and sold off the cattle.

Ronald lost the love of his life Geraldine in 2011. A few years after Geraldine's passing, Ronald's passion and desire to farm once again had fired. In the fall of 2018 Ron purchased some horses to keep the grass down around the yard. He then, decided to get them bred so there would be some new life around the farm. He always wanted LongHorns so he bought a few of those too. Even though he wasn’t able to get up in the tractor to feed the animals as much recently, Ron was still the boss and always guided when it was needed. With Ron’s passion for farming being so strong, his Grandson Mason picked up on it at an early age. You can be sure, wherever Grandpa was, Mason was right behind. Mason recently expanded the herd by purchasing his own cattle to add to the operation. You could be certain where ever Ronald was his dog named Bandit was too. Ronald admired Bandits guarding skills. Ron would often open the window and tell Bandit to “Sick Em” and then watch Bandit run off looking for something to chase around the yard.

Ronald has been struggling with his health the last few months and things were getting harder and harder for him. With the help of his children he was able to remain at home as he wished. Ronald passed away at home peacefully in his sleep on July 10, 2024.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant, officiating. The eulogy was read by Tracy Masko. Special Musical Selections were ‘Goodbye’ by Kenny Rogers and ‘Love Without End Amen’ by George Strait. Interment followed in the Preeceville Community Cemetery with Mason Bilan serving as urn bearer. Memorial donations may be made to the Preeceville Roughriders Snowmobile Club as gifts of remembrance.
