Ron was born in Regina on May 17, 1942. When he was 11 months old, Katie and Alois Hauber took the train to Regina to go to an orphanage to pick up their adopted son that they named Ronald Joseph.
Ron lived with his new parents and his sister, Joan, on the farm about 4 miles North East of Sturgis. They used horses for transportation all winter long and in the summer, they had a car. His father was a grain farmer and he also had cattle. They brought milk and cream to the dairy in Preeceville regularly.
When Ron started school, they moved to Sturgis and they lived in the home where Jerry and Jeanette Budnick now live. They lived there until Ron was in grade 8 when they moved to their home West of Sturgis which is now the home of Harvey and Pat Prokop. While they were there, they continued to grain farm, raise cattle and they also raised turkeys for commercial sale. Ron helped with all the farming chores. For recreation, Ron rode horses with the Larson boys across the road. He fished and hunted from a very young age and this remained a passion throughout his life.
In high school Ron enjoyed the Industrial Arts classes and with some guidance, he built a motorbike. He rode it to school everyday until winter arrived. He graduated from Sturgis Composite High School and attended Moose Jaw Technical School for training to become an electrician. He worked in Kelvington for Ruben Lindgren after training.
On July 3, 1965, he married Carole Delwo at Sturgis. They moved to Yorkton where he worked for Parkland Electric for 2 years and Pilon Electric in Melville for 4 years. Carole taught at Sacred Heart Academy. They had two sons during their time in Yorkton-Tyler in 1968 and Kurtis in 1970.
In 1971 Ron and Carole, Tyler and Kurtis, moved to Sturgis and built a home on an acreage West of Sturgis. In 1975, a third son, Ryan, was added to the family. Ron was very involved with his sons and took them fishing and hunting and drove the boat for hours at a time to water ski. He was very involved with their sporting activities, mainly hockey. He was a coach and a “driving Dad”.
Ron was a great family man and he was very proud of his sons and their families. His grandchildren were the greatest gift that God gave him – he loved them all very much!!
Ron and Carole travelled extensively throughout the world. They also travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama for deep-sea fishing where Ron caught Blue Fin Tuna, Sail-fish, and Marlin, and the coveted Rooster Fish!
Ron is predeceased by his parents, Alois and Katherine (Reagan) Hauber; sister, Joan (Ron) Britton.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Carole; sons, Tyler (Karen), Kurtis (Crystal) and Ryan (Trisha); grandchildren, Kaison Hauber, Macy Hauber, Simon Hauber, Nate Hauber, William Hauber, Tomas Hauber, and Katherine Hauber, as well as his many friends and extended family.
Funeral Mass was held on October 19, 2024, from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Sturgis, SK, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, O.M.I. as Celebrant. Fabian Delwo and Katherine Hauber read scripture and Tyler Hauber shared the eulogy. Interment followed in the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church Parish Cemetery with Ron’s grandchildren, Kaison, Macy, Simon, Nate, William, Tomas and Katherine Hauber serving as casketbearers.
