Sally J. (Gulka) Amy

It is with enduring love and profound gratitude for a life well lived that the family of Sally June Amy (Gulka) of Sturgis, SK announces her departure into the arms of our Lord on June 5, 2026.

Family and friends of Sally are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis, on Wednesday June 10th at 2:00 p.m. 

Internment will follow at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery at Hryhoriw, SK. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (Box 629, Sturgis, SK, S0A 4A0) or St. Demetrius Hryhoriw Cemetery (Box 305, Preeceville, SK S0A 3B0) as gifts of remembrance. 

Born in Preeceville, SK on February 28, 1955, Sally was surrounded by the family and faith which served as the foundation for her life. Sally was strong spirited, generous with her talents, and loyal to her farming roots. Sally was beautiful inside and out, and lived her life with style, grace and elegance in addition to her fine character.

Sally married the love of her life, Elgin on July 22, 1977. They loved dancing and enjoyed travelling together, with Waskesiu as a particular favourite. In 1980, they moved to the home quarter South of Sturgis where they welcomed their children Vanessa, Tyffany, Tyrrell, and Keenean. She spent many years living and working within the steady routines of the farm, with harvest and calving seasons being some of her cherished memories of farm life.

A lifelong adventurer, Sally travelled to over 15 countries. She found profound joy in exploring and appreciating the beauty in the world, particularly the charm and culture of Europe. The Netherlands, Germany, France, and Italy, where she visited multiple times, held special places in her heart. Among her most treasured experiences were walking through the vibrant tulip fields of Holland and attending the renowned Chelsea Flower Show in England.

She delighted in gardening and sought to create beauty through her flower gardens, roses and peonies, being a particular favorite. For many years, she nurtured impressive floral displays at the farm, house in Saskatoon, and cabin at Crystal Lake. The entire family enjoyed summers at the family cabin where she was pivotal in creating core memories for her children of building sand creatures, having a 3 gallon tub of ice cream (or two) in the freezer for those hot summer days, many BBQs on the patio, and fires on the beach at night.

Sally’s faith encompassed both the Ukrainian and Roman Catholic rites, by which she enriched the lives of her husband and children tremendously. Creating family traditions was important to Sally, and part of that was her faith in the Roman Catholic Church which was a cornerstone of her life. She faithfully attended Mass nearly every Sunday with her children, guiding them through catechism and encouraging them to actively participate—reading the gospel, singing hymns, and embracing prayer both at the table and before bed. She brought that faith into the holidays, including Christmas and Easter, that were accompanied by the traditional Ukrainian and Canadian dishes, attending Mass, and created the magical elements of the holidays for her children, going above and beyond to build family traditions and memories for her family.  Her deep faith carried her through life’s many challenges and brought her great comfort, especially in her final months.

The family wishes to thank the many extended relatives and friends who visited Sally in the final weeks of her life, with a special thank you to Father Andrew and the friends from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church who provided spiritual strength to Sally throughout her life. We also thank Dr. Meyer and the staff at the Preeceville and District Health Centre for their compassion and care.

Sally leaves behind a legacy of moral courage, resilience and perseverance as demonstrated by her indomitable spirit. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, Elgin, daughters Vanessa (Cody,) Tyffany (Steve), and sons Tyrrell (Tessa), Keenean (Brittney), and grandsons David, James, Everett and Tucker. She is fondly remembered by her brother Ernie (Yvonne) Gulka and nephew Ryan, brother in law Gary Zdunich, and nephews Austin Morken (Jacklyn) Adam Morken (Lacy), niece Emily Zdunich, and many friends and relatives in Preeceville, Conquest, Sturgis and Saskatoon. Sally was predeceased by her sister Joann Zdunich and parents Mike M. Gulka and Stella M. Gulka.
