Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Pankratz, wife of Don Pankratz of Preeceville, announce her passing on Friday, March 25, 2022 following and long battle with cancer. She was 76 years of age.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Club 60 in Preeceville.

Shirley was born September 18, 1945 to parents, Harold and Josie Nelson, in Canora, SK. She was raised on the family farm north of Tiny and attended school until the age of 16 when she went to Rosthern, SK to babysit for her older sister. There she met Don, her husband of 59 years. They married in 1962 and welcomed a daughter, Jacqueline, in 1964. They moved to Regina and a son, Roland, followed in 1965. Shirley stayed home to raise the family and in 1972 another son, Kirby, arrived. The family moved to Preeceville in 1975 when Don took over the Imperial Oil bulk station. Shirley worked alongside Don for several years before their fourth child, Jamie, was born in 1978.

Shirley liked to garden. She enjoyed bowling and bingo. She kept a clean home and was always baking. Don appreciated her skills in the kitchen and liked eating. The family spent many years enjoying their time at the cabin at Nelson Lake that Shirley and Don built. They have many memories of time spent fishing, swimming and the boys water-skiing.

Shirley was blessed with seven grandchildren that she had patiently (mostly) waited for. She enjoyed their visits.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, Harold and Josie Nelson; brother, Hank Nelson; sister, Wendy Sliva; brothers-in-law, Don Korman, Bryan Johnson, Bill Pankratz (Elaine); and a sister in infancy.

She leaves to mourn, her husband of 59 years, Don; daughter, Jackie; sons, Roland, Kirby (Jocelyn), and Jamie (Sharon); her grandchildren, Braden and Morgan Mclean, Rachel and Todd Pankratz, Elizabeth, Kirk and J.J. Pankratz; her sisters, Doris Korman of Surrey, BC, Diana Johnson of Vergreville, AB, Debbie (Russell) Slowski of Yorkton, SK; brothers, Chris (Hazel) Nelson of Buchanan, SK, and Darrell (Sharon) Nelson of Pelly, SK; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Katie Pankratz of Winnipeg, MB, Giles and Doreen Rahier of Rosthern, SK, along with numerous neices, nephews and friends.

She will be sadly missed.
