Stella Chalupiak Obituary

CHALUPIAK – Stella Chalupiak wife of the Late Billie Chalupiak of Preeceville, formerly of Hazel Dell.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt, Stella Chalupiak (nee Luciw) who passed away on June 17, 2020 at the age of 98 years, at the Preeceville Long Term Care Home.

Stella was born on January 9, 1922 to John and Annie Luciw. Stella was the oldest of ten children in a family of five boys and five girls. As a young girl Stella attended Orange Vale School along with her brothers and sisters. Stella often spoke of her fond memories of growing up on the family farm.

On May 31, 1941 she married the love of her life, Billie Chalupiak in the Chechow Church. They moved to Pickle Crow, Ontario. Billie enlisted in the army while Stella worked at the zinc plant. After Billie’s discharge they moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba where Stella and Billie both were employed at the mine. Later they returned to Hazel Dell where they owned and operated a hotel for seventeen years. During that time Stella also was employed as a custodian at the Hazel Dell Shaftesbury School until her retirement.

Stella and Billie raised three children Larry, Robert and Marlene. Stella was a loving wife and mother. Her early years raising her children were some of the happiest times in her life. As her children grew and married and the families grew, Stella took great pleasure in being a grandmother to nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was a kind, gentle, godgood loving person who loved her family and friends. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. Stella was a woman of deep faith in God, read and quoted the bible daily with great passion.

The door to her home was always open. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends.  Stella loved to garden, and it gave her great pleasure to be able to offer her children, grandchildren and friends a variety of vegetables and fruits that came from her garden. Her other hobbies were sewing and knitting. She got great joy in knitting numerous scarfs and toques for family and friends. Stella’s other passion was music and in her younger years loved dancing.

Stella was predeceased by her husband Billie, daughter Marlene Dyky, parents John and Annie Luciw, brothers Peter & Steve Luciw, sisters Pauline Urechko and Mary (Metro) Antonio, sister-in-law Nettie Luciw and brother-in-laws Russell Pasiechnik and Bill Urechko, nephew Johnny Urechko.

Stella is survived by her sons, Larry (Elizabeth) Chalupiak, Robert (Sally) Chalupiak, nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Stella is also survived by sisters Pearl Pasiechnik and Carol (Joe) Pasiechnik, brothers Mike (Violet) Luciw, Bill (Hope) Luciw and Joe (Elsie) Luciw, son-in-law Larry Dyky, sister-in-law Jeanette Luciw and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
