HOLMES – WILGOSH The family of Mrs. Stella Holmes, wife of the late Mike Wilgosh, and of Frank Holmes of Preeceville, sadly announce her passing on November 2, 2022. She was 94 years of age.
Stella was born on May 16, 1928, to Mike and Jennie (nee Nazaar) Antoniw in the Preeceville District. Stella attended the Checkow School for grade 10 and for part of grade 11. In April of 1947 she married Mike Wilgosh. They farmed till 1957, then moved to Port Colborne, Ontario. They found that they didn’t like the city life, so they moved back to Preeceville where they farmed until 1991. Stella was busy raising a family, but often took time to rest and enjoyed playing her guitar while Mile played his fiddle. When they retired, they moved into Preeceville. Mike passed away in December of 1995.
Stella married Frank Holmes in September of 2000. They enjoyed six years together. Frank passed away in 2006.
Stella served on the board of directors for the Assiniboine Valley Manor for three years. She was an active member of Club 60 and sat on their board and as the Vice President. Stella enjoyed knitting, playing board games, and playing cards. She especially liked a good game of canasta. Stella loved music, and enjoyed watching musical programs on TV, as well as singing and playing her guitar. She was part of the Ukrainian Ladies Choir and a member of Willie and Girls for many years.
Stella is predeceased by her parents, Mike (1957) and Jennie (1963); her husbands, Mike (1995) and Frank (2006); brothers, Peter Antoniw (1991), Jack Antoniw (1972), Bill Antoniw (1995); sister, Lilly Hearn (2000); sons, Jerry Wilgosh (2014) and Joe Wilgosh (2016); daughter-in-law, Shelley Wilgosh (2006), and grandson, Matthew Wilgosh (1986).
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Vicki (John) Kowal, Carol (Murdoch) MacFarlane; son, Kevin (Barbara) Wilgosh; daughter-in-law, Darlene Wilgosh; grandchildren, Dorian Kowal, Susan (Gil) Cadrin, Shawn (Brooke) Kowal, Iain (Cindy) MacFarlane, Heather (Brett) Johnson, Scott (Kyra) MarFarlane, Micheal Wilgosh, Catherine (James) Bentum, Adam Wilgosh, Jessy Wilgosh, Courtney Wilgosh, Jenean Wilgosh, and Brittney Wilgosh; great-grandchildren, Jake (Becca) Kowal, Tal and Evan Cadrin, Finley MacFarlane, Brighton MacFarlane, Evan Johnson, Mason MacFarlane, Stella MacFarlane, Leah Bentum , Madeline Bentum, Jackson Bentum, Caleb Bentum, Aiden Wilgosh, Avery Wilgosh, and her step-sons and step-daughters, and their children.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Reverend Murdoch MacFarlane of The Neighbourhood Church, Saskatoon officiating. Words of remembrance were given by John Kowal, Barbara Wilgosh and Iain MacFarlane. Pianist, Debbie Blender with guitarist, Jack Jacques led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘When We All Get to Heaven’, ‘Safe in the Arms of Jesus’ and ‘God Be With You Till We Meet Again’.
Interment followed in the Checkow Cemetery with Dorian Kowal, Shawn Kowal, Iain MacFarlane, Scott MacFarlane, Adam Wilgosh and Jessy Wilgosh serving as the casketbearers.
