Steve Rehaluk was born southwest of Hazel Dell to his parents Paul and Eugenia Rehaluk on February 3, 1940. He was the only son, and brother to two sisters, Mary Kitzan and Pauline Holowachuk. Steve remembers attending his sisters’ weddings as a young boy.
Steve attended his first two years of school at Shaftesbury School in Hazel Dell. However, for his next two years (and last), he had to walk four miles across country to Woodrock School.
In his early work years, Steve worked in the Uranium City and Thompson mines.
In 1962 Steve met the love of his life, Lorraine Slugoski, and they were married in 1963. They raised their five children on the farm. Steve also worked for all the neighbouring farmers and drove school bus for 13 years, making sure his children went to school. His children are proud of his guidance and teaching them all about fishing, hunting, and hard work. In his retirement years, Steve enjoyed trips to the farm to watch the local seeding and harvest.
Steve was predeceased by his dad in 1966, his mother in 1977, and his wife of 43 years, Lorraine, in 2010.
Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his children: Wanda, Steven (Ida), Duane (Karen), Rob (Lenitta), and Gina (Evan); his 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; as well as a lot of grandpuppies that he loved very much.
