It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Hancock on Sunday, June 15, 2025 .
A Graveside Service was held Monday June 23, 2025, at the Sturgis Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Terry may be made to the Sturgis Hall or Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation.
Terry L. Hancock was born April 19, 1953 in Yorkton, Sk. to Lillian and Wesley Hancock. Terry grew up on the family farm near Clyde. He began his schooling in Stornoway, later moving to Rhein, completing his education in Yorkton. From a young age, Terry showed the down-to-earth values that stayed with him throughout his life: resilience, friendliness, and always ready to share a laugh.
Some of you knew Terry as Silver, a nickname he received because of his blonde hair. Terry had a big personality, but his smile was even bigger. Laughter came easily to him. A few of his favourite sayings were, “Do the Math”, “That’s a Boom”, and “Ya Right”.
Terry attended school at SIAST in Saskatoon, receiving his Meat Cutting Certificate. He worked at various places, which included Yorkton Safeway, Canora IGA, and lastly Sturgis Meats.
Terry made his home in Sturgis and he quickly fell in love with the community. Surrounded by good people and lasting friendships - a place he was proud to be a part of. He even served on town council for 2 terms.
Terry bought into Sturgis Meats and poured his heart into the business. He was known for staying late or popping in after hours to accommodate customers whenever it suited them. He took great pride in his work- especially when it came to his sausage and shishliki. He would tell you his was the very best.
Terry was one of the biggest Edmonton Oiler and Saskatchewan Roughrider fans around. Game days were serious business - we’d even mark it on the calendar so the nurses would know when to have his TV tuned in and ready to go!
Terry loved Christmas. He always wanted the tree up early and the lights left on until it was time for them to come down. He never complained about the Christmas Music or Hallmark Christmas movies that were left on long after his visits had ended.
Terry found joy in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He never missed a chance to proudly remind everyone about the guys trip he went on up north, where he caught the biggest fish and claimed the grand prize!
Terry spent countless hours volunteering on various committees, always ready to lend a hand. One of his favourites being the Kinsmen Club of Sturgis, where he helped raise funds for Telemiracle, selling Trip of the Month tickets and ducks for the duck derby, flipping burgers, and most importantly, spending time with his fellow Kin. Another committee he especially enjoyed serving on - perhaps because it was made up entirely of women and Terry - was the Sturgis Hall Fundraising Committee. Together they raised an incredible $180,000.00. That’s a lot of bake sales! Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the new hall in Sturgis stands today. Terry was a member of the Sturgis Wildlife Committee for numerous years, selling wildlife memberships and helping in any way he could. On Tuesday evenings, you would often find Terry volunteering at BINGO and selling Nevadas. He enjoyed Wednesdays at the READ Club, playing cards, visiting, and having lunch. Terry generously donated $1000 to the new horse statue located by the READ Club, where there is a plaque with his name on it. At the Sturgis Curling and Skating rinks, you could find Terry picking up a kitchen shift whenever needed. Often talking about the “good ol’ days” where he could out-curl anyone on the ice!
Everyone in the community knew and loved Terry. He was often spoiled with homemade soups, pies and Granny’s cabbage rolls. He often travelled to Rhein, Yorkton, and Canora to visit friends. He was always on the move!
Terry moved into the Preeceville Long Term Care Home in Feb. 2022. He had no complaints and rolled with the flow (in his wheelchair). He put in frequent requests for Perry’s fried fish, which he thoroughly enjoyed along with Tim Hortons coffee and the odd cheezie or two.
Terry passed away at the Canora Hospital on June 15, 2025.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, and his sister Norma. He leaves behind his siblings Shirley, Marjorie, Glenn, Joyce, Joanne, Dale, Roy, Gordon, and his twin Gerry.
He will be deeply missed by his extended family, Carla, Perry, Brooke, Brayden, Justin, Dawn, Jax, and Charli, plus numerous friends.
“No matter what life threw at him he never once complained”.
He will be deeply missed as he was so loved.
God Bless You Terry
