Wilf was born in Canora, SK on September 21,1945. He went to Norway school until grade 8 and then continued his education at Canora Composite Highschool and graduated from grade 12 in 1964. That same year he started working at the Canora Gateway Coop, where he worked until 1966 before transferring to the Pelly Coop as the store Manager. In 1968, he met the love of his life, Linda (Stechyshyn) and they married in August 1970 in Arran, SK. Soon after, they moved to Pelly, SK where they started their family - Gregory and Angela. Wilf retired from the Co-op in 1981, after 15 years, to fulfill his farming dreams. They moved to the family homestead in the RM. of Buchanan in 1981. Daughter Cynthia was then born in 1986 to complete their family.
Wilf was an avid sports enthusiast playing ball throughout the summer months and continued into his senior years playing on the field with the Assiniboine Golden Aces. In the winter months Wilf could be found at the curling and hockey rink. When Wilf retired his own skates, he proceeded to manage his son Gregory’s minor and senior hockey clubs. Wilf dedicated many years managing the Preeceville Pats Hockey Club and could be found at the rink prepping for the game no matter the day, time, or weather. When Wilf wasn’t at the rink, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Farming was where Wilf’s heart truly laid. His passion for the farm was evident in every task he undertook. What he cherished most was passing this love and knowledge for farming along to his son Greg who will continue the legacy for years to come. He instilled in his children the value of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather (“Didi”) will be remembered and missed by all that knew him. Wilf was very proud of his children and grandchildren and was always in attendance cheering them on at dance recitals, sporting activities, or Christmas concerts. Whatever the occasion, “Didi” was there.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Linda; son, Gregory (Robin), and their children, Oakley and Ireland; daughter, Angela (Tyler) and their child, Van; daughter, Cynthia (Bruce), and their child, Sophia.
Wilf will also be remembered by his sister, Phyllis Snodgrass; brothers-in-law, Waverly (Janet) Stechyshyn, Lorne (Elsie) Stechyshyn, Ronald (Darla) Stechyshyn, and Richard (Debbie) Stechyshyn and sister-in-law Geraldine (Dave) Mykula and many nieces, nephews, and other family friends.
